And the winner is ...

I was going to use a random number generator for the Blogiversary comment prize, but instead I decided it would be more fun to print out the list of commenters, and draw them from my favorite monstrous coffee mug

And the winner is.....

Congratulations to Abby from Yarn and Cocktails for winning the skein of Trekking XXL #104. Please email me your address so I can get it in the mail to you. Thanks to everyone who participated. It was so fun reading all of your "favorites" and getting to know your knitting personality a bit.

A week or two ago, I signed up for the Victorian Lace Today Knitalong. I made it in just under the gun though since they aren't accepting any new members. Can anyone shed some light on why a KAL would accept a limited number of participants?

Anyway, I decided to knit the Shoulder Shawl with the variegated Graceful laceweight yarn I purchased at Stitches West from the Yarn Place. I'm not sure I *love* the variegated colors for this particular pattern, but it's good practice anyway. I'm also a bit nervous because the pattern calls for 900 yards and my skein is 900 yards. I went down a needle size and I suppose I could leave off a pattern repeat if I need to. This may be a nail biter!! Thankfully Laura has agreed to teach me how to crochet since this shawl has a crochet edge. Well of course it does. I never go the simple route.

And totally off topic, for those of you thinking your gas prices are a bit high, Sunday afternoon I saw this:
(click on picture to make larger)Yes, that really does say $3.12 a gallon for basic unleaded gasoline in Lake Elsinore, CA. OUCH!

I like nail biters, I'm definitely staying tuned! Love the yarn, I think it will look beautiful.

I thought gas prices were high in MA but I heard on the news tonight that we're slightly below the national average. Woot.

I like the yarn and don't worry about the crochet, it's easy. Isn't Lake Elsinor always expensive? Maybe they want you to go to the casino first to afford to pay that. It's 2.41 here in GA.

Oh so pretty!! It looks gorgeous on my computer screen, but so did the "Voldemort" sock yarn you gave me for Christmas! :) I was crying about seeing 2.38 for gas today.Congrats Abby!

Goodness! 3.12 a gallon! I was complaining about the $2.69 I paid in Vermont when I brought my son back to school this past weekend! The colors for your shawl are gorgeous and I have no doubt that crocheting will be a piece of cake for you!
CONGRATULATIONS ABBY!

I think the gas is even higher here. Hubby reported the price going up at least twice every day all last week... It would be higher in the morning than the night before, and higer in the afternoon than in the morning. What's it all about, anyway? Isn't crude going down? Gads.

I think your shawl is going to be gorgeous in that fabulous yarn you got, gf. :-)

OUCH is right!
I agree with Angelika, a crocheted edge will not be hard. I love the color choice!

Our gas price on Sunday: $3.27.

Humboldt county California, some of the highest prices in the nation, despite years of protests about price fixing. Ah, well, it's a beautiful place to live anyway.

That's a great way to learn to crochet -- necessity!

We're running neck and neck with you up here in the foothills (Calaveras County) on gas prices. I just started making this same shawl too! I found your post on the KAL site. I just found the KAL blog yesterday, only to see they're not accepting new members. Oh well. I can still knit and read along! I have to start shawl over again because somehow I keep goofing up on my y/o's. Looks like you're really doing well with them!

I *love* your huge coffee mug!
Oy, a nail biter! It seems I always have nail biters going on, I never seem to have enough yarn to knit really confidently and calmly - I always keep worrying that I might run out of it! Fingers crossed that you'll have enough yarn - and wow, this shawl is going to be such a beauty with this most amazing yarn!

I love that shawl. Your colorway looks perfect for it. It is strange that they are only accepting a certain amount of knitters. I wonder why too. And those gas prices are scary!

Oh that is going to be sooo pretty. I just love lace. Yes, that is strange that they have a limited number in a KAL.
