What I'm Working On Wednesday

What in the world possessed me to pick up a pair of size 2 circulars to knit a pair of socks? Wouldn't you think that by my 11th pair, I'd realize that for my foot & with this type of sock yarn, I'd need size 1? The photo isn't correct though, it should show you that there are TWO socks in that state, not just one. In order to never experience SSS, I have to knit my socks at the same time. It's really a great thing until you mess up and then it's a .... (BLEEP)!!!

By the way, the pattern is Monkey & the yarn is Cherry Blossom Fibers. So far, I love the yarn & I like the pattern. This is my first attempt at converting a pattern to toe-up & Judy's Magic Cast On and her Tangled Up In Blue sock pattern are helping immensely!

The other day, I was looking at photos from the Soaring Eagles Project and she posted a link to Kate's blog saying that she needed some hats. I clicked on the link & the post says that the Children's Hospital has a ward of 10-16 year olds who are undergoing radiation and chemo for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses who need some hats. Not just any hats though, they are specifically requesting fun fur hats. For whatever reason, when I first learned to knit in the winter of 2005, I knit these seven fun fur caps from a Lion Brand Chemo hat pattern & then put them away in a container & forgot about them. Reading Kate's post reminded me of them & now they'll be mailed off to some deserving kids. I can't believe they want them, but I'm thrilled that they do!

As far as current knitting projects go, the Shifting Sands Scarf in the Malabrigo is complete, the Argosy Scarf is ready for blocking, the We Call Them Pirates Hat needs a lining, the Fake Isle Hat needs felting, the Spartan Pullover sweater needs re-blocking, and the Forbes Forest scarf is on hold until I figure out if I want to rip HALF of it back. Somehow I ended up switching needle sizes halfway through the project & since it's taken painfully long to knit it, I really don't want to re-knit it. Unfortunately the gauge change is quite noticeable, so I'm at a standstill for now.

Oooh, I love that sock pattern. Sorry about your gauge issues though - waaaa. How cool that you have a box of fun fur hats ready to go. It's like it was meant to be. :) That's quite a pile of finished or almost finished projects you've got - every impressive.

I have to knit socks on 1s or 0s, myself. I feel your pain.

Oh No!! That bites. Cute fun fur hats. They make me think of tribbles!

oh, bummer about the socks! I hate it when that happens. I always have to knit socks on 0's or 1's -- or if I'm using larger needles I have to modify the pattern to fit the gauge.

That's so cool you have those hats! I bet the kids are going to love them. They do sort of look like tribbles.

Monkey is on my "must knit" list too. How awful to have to frog two socks! I feel your pain. Pretty yarn, though.

Oh little sister, are you really that young? A tribble is a small soft fictional animal from Star Trek. They are very soft, cute & make a endearing purring noise, but they reproduce so fast that they are even born pregnant.

If you ever get the chance to watch it, the Star Trek episode is named: "The Trouble With Tribbles"

Cool thing about those hats... They'll now have absolutely the most perfect home. Guess they knew that all along, and have been waiting patiently all this time. ;-)

Sorry about the sock -- I love that colorway though!

How wonderful that you've found a home for your hats! They're cute!

your hats are adorable. Also, do you have any clue where one might find a tut for gussets? I am so confused!

Cuffs down, generally and heeless, since I can't quite figure the gussets
