The-what-ius?

Does anyone have any idea why Cookie named this sock pattern Thelonious? Does it have something to do with Thelonious Monk?

Pattern: Thelonious by Cookie A.
Pattern Source: www.cookiea.com
Yarn: Louet Gems Pearl in Sage
Needles: Knit Picks 24" circular size 1.5 US (2.5 mm)

Thelonious is one of the patterns I purchased when I took the sock design class from Cookie in July and it's one of the few patterns I didn't convert from cuff down to toe up. I figured I'd knit a pattern as written (for once) mainly because she designed them cuff down and I wanted to knit it as she designed it.

I made a few errors and had to tink back here and there, but overall, things went smoothly. The yarn was wonderful to work with, and I'm glad I chose a solid colorway yarn so that it shows off all the details of Cookie's design. I would definitely recommend this pattern to anyone who loves knitting socks, but be forewarned, you need to be able to knit from a chart.

These socks are being mailed to mom for her birthday, although I must admit, I'm almost a week late in sending them to her. I'm sure she'll forgive me though since her gift to me was a few weeks late also.

I've already cast on for the next Cookie pattern, Twisted Flower, and it's taking my full attention, although I'm starting to itch to make something other than socks.

In yarn collecting news (because I can't not), I picked up 13 skeins of this Classic Elite Skye Tweed for a future cardigan for myself. I'm not sure what pattern to use, so I'm wondering ... does anyone have any recommendations?

Cookie's patterns are good at keeping our brains going. Who needs crosswords! LOL My thought was the lace looks a little like note of a scale...but I certainly don't know the real reason (if any). Nice socks!!

The socks look great! Cookie is a fabulous designer. You should be proud you tackled her socks! I love the Skye Tweed! Very pretty. My first thought was the Minimalist Cardigan from the latest IK. I am not sure if the gauge matches but it is a great pattern and would look lovely in that yarn.

Wowie! Your socks are really beautiful! Very, very impressive. One of these days I'll move on from stockinette. ;)

I am currently plotting to acquire the yarn for the Eunny Jang cardi in the new IK. Don't know if the Skye Tweed gauge is even close to the pattern, but I think it's quite unique.

Love those socks! And Skye Tweed is wonderful. Have you checked out any of Lisa Lloyd's designs?

Hmm, those socks look familiar... Great job! Your mom will love them.

Pretty color on the Skye Tweed! I've got a sweater's worth (in a different color) that's been marinating quite a while in my stash. So many possibilities.

Those socks are beautiful! Great job!! They are green though, didn't you know they really wanted to belong to me? :)

Beautiful socks! I think this pattern definitely needs a solid yarn to show off, and I just love Louet Gems.

Can't think of anything particular for the Skye Tweed (all that's coming to mind right now is Brooklyn Tweed's Cobblestone sweater in the new IK), but you've picked a gorgeous colorway.

What awesome socks!! I can tell they aren't "mindless knitting" socks, and they came out absolutely perfect. I'm sure your mom will love them.

Beautiful socks!

The yarn is beautiful. I would go something that is rather simple but has a twist to it. Maybe something like this: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=72&d_id=5&lang=us (not sure how that is gauge-wise, but you get the idea).

Your Thelonius are so so pretty in sage - your Mom is fortunate!!
I have the pattern printed off and the yarn picked out, but it still may be awhile!

You already know how I feel about those socks, gf. They're gorgous! Ooh, found a pattern on Ravelry. Tweedy Aran Cardigan by Norah Gaughan. The pattern's in the Interweave Knits, Winter 2001/2002. It's a different yarn than called for, but there's a gal (sparrowhawk) who knit it in your yarn, and it's fabulous. Cables galore. Nice cardigan. I have some yarn around here that I've been wanting to make a cardigan with, and I may have just found the pattern. If, of course, the yarn's the right gauge. No idea right now. Will have to look later. LOL :-)

Love the socks, they're so unpredictable and unique, just like TM himself:)

You have enough yarn for a Cobblestone or Central Park Hoodie--go for it!
